On 9 to 11 September 2022, SBSC organised an inaugural Biopsy and Imaging Masterclass which was attended by clinicians from Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines and Singapore. The 60 delegates had the opportunity to have hands-on sessions on the Savi-Scout and tried their hands on vacuum-assisted biopsies. The engaging and interactive 3-day workshop for the regional radiologists and breast surgeons included a series of lectures from our multi-disciplinary team of surgeons and radiologists. The session included a Rad-Path panel discussion where the thought leaders in breast care came together to share case studies of radiology and pathology correlations. Many of the attendees were highly participative in the Q&A segment throughout the workshop.

In August 2022, TE Asia Healthcare’s network of leaders travelled to Bangkok for a leadership offsite, the first such gathering since the COVID-19 lockdowns. Familiar faces were reacquainted while new members were warmly welcomed over food and drinks.

The main agenda included developing a collectively aligned Purpose Statement and a set of Core Values that will continue to make the Group effective and sustainable.

With the support of Deloitte’s Brand, Design & Culture consultants and the enthusiastic participation of its leaders, TE Asia Healthcare’s Purpose Statement and Core Values were unveiled at the end of the offsite:

Mr Eng Aik Meng, Group Chief Executive Officer of TE Asia Healthcare said: “Value Partnerships refers to the partnerships that embody the Group’s shared values: Team Spirit, Trustworthiness, Adaptability and People Centeredness. We are committed to working and growing with partners who share our values to provide the best possible care for patients. We believe that these types of partnerships will truly transform Specialty Care.”

ALTY Orthopaedic Hospital marked its official launch on 07.07.2022 and the occasion was graced by over 250 guests.

The hospital was officiated by Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir and Yang Amat Mulia Tunku Besar Seri Menanti,Tunku Ali Redhauddin Ibni Tuanku Muhriz.

This official event was also graced by the presence of in-house VIPs – Mr Eng Aik Meng, Chief Executive Officer, TE Asia Healthcare, Mr Anwar Anis, Executive Director of ALTY Orthopaedic Hospital, and the ALTY Orthopaedic Hospital eight founding surgeons – Dato’ Dr. Badrul Shah Badaruddin, Dato’ Dr. K.S. Sivananthan, Prof Dr Azhar M. Merican, Assoc. Prof. (C) Dr. G Ruslan Nazaruddin Simanjuntak, Dr Lim Sze Wei, Dr. Mark Chong,  Dr. Sureshan Sivananthan and Dr. Wong Chung Chek.

ALTY or “Adding Life to Years” Orthopaedic Hospital is Malaysia’s largest private orthopaedic group practice which provides quality and focused care for orthopaedic and musculoskeletal conditions. As of July 22, the full-fledged single-specialty hospital has 8 resident surgeons and close to 150 staff.

Heart patients in Jakarta can look forward to more advanced treatment and care with the official opening of Heartology, TE’s first cardiovascular centre in Indonesia and the second in Southeast Asia.

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan and Indonesian Finance Minister Sri Mulyani attended the milestone event on Sep 14 last year.

Heartology is in Brawijaya Saharjo Hospital in Tebet in Jakarta, and operates in collaboration with the Brawijaya hospital group, an established operator with several hospitals and clinics.

The launch of Heartology proceeded despite the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure that no crises would deprive any heart patient of medical care in Indonesia.

Advanced and uncompromised care is provided at Heartology with the help of a team of top cardiac specialists and clinical staff, including nine cardiac physicians.

There is a comprehensive range of services including diagnostics, cardiac and other heart and vascular surgery, interventional treatments, electrophysiology treatments and paediatric cardiology services.

Heartology’s non-invasive cardiac laboratory is equipped with a full scale of cardiac diagnostic tools.

There is also the only true Hybrid Operating Theatre in Indonesia. This facility enables complex procedures that involve both interventional and invasive surgical procedures to be conducted in the same room, reducing risk, enabling efficient care and reducing recovery times. The center also has an advanced Catherization Laboratory, fully equipped with vascular ultrasound and rotary ablation equipment.

The centre has advance electrophysiology equipment, including the first installation in Indonesia of Abbott’s HD Grid 3D Mapping System, which creates detailed mapping of the heart and enabling accurate and precise catheter ablation treatment for arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat).

More good news is to come as Heartology plans to open a full-fledged cardiovascular hospital in Indonesia in the future.

Hung Viet General Clinic (HVGC), a new 4-storey private ambulatory centre, held its grand opening on 31 July 2020 in Hanoi, Vietnam.

As an expansion of outpatient facilities under the banner of HV Healthcare (which includes HV Cancer Hospital), HVGC has the capacity and licence to house 13 specialist clinics, covering 12 different specialities, including paediatrics, oncology and dentistry. Currently, HVGC operates a total of 5 full-time clinics and 11 different part-time clinics.

Besides the specialist outpatient clinics, HVGC also has diagnostic services, minor surgery and outpatient procedure rooms. In addition, HVGC has a one-stop health screening centre, with the official licence to conduct the mandatory periodic medical examinations and screenings for companies in Vietnam.

The Grand Opening event of HVGC was held entirely online. In the morning, the event was streamed online and included speeches and online mini games for the public. The online game gave the public an opportunity to answer multiple-choice questions about HV, with lucky contestants winning gift packages to get a free health check at HVGC. An online ribbon cutting ceremony was also held for key guests and internal staff as an extension to the grand opening event, with the ribbon cutting done online at the different locations of the participants.

Among the key staff that were involved in the opening of HVGC were Dr. Dam Thu Nga, Medical Director of HVGC, Endocrine Surgeon Dr. Mai Van Sam, ENT Surgeon Dr. Nguyen Duy Son and General Surgeon Dr. Vu Hai.

“We strongly believe that Hung Viet General Clinic will be a success as we have a good team and services, modern medical facilities and equipment and are always improving our service quality to bring our customers the best experience,” said Dam Thu Nga, Medical Director of HVGC.

Integrated Oncology Centres (IOC) was established as an oncology arm under TE Asia Healthcare Partners to bring together medical expertise and passionate healthcare operators together.  IOC’s regional portfolio currently includes oncology centres in Indonesia, Hong Kong, Philippines, and Vietnam.

IOC’s mission is driven by the need to bring hope and provide top quality cancer care to Asia by putting control back in the hands of doctors and patients. Each centre is designed to provide a full range of cancer services under one roof, grouping together an expert team with state-of-the-art technology including diagnostic imaging, radiation therapy, oncology drug treatments, latest molecular tests and medicines.

Besides the coordination of resources, sharing of best practices and tapping on economies of scale, IOC will be leveraging on technology to encourage regional work between the clinical teams in the conduct of tumour boards and multidisciplinary team approaches to care as well.

TE Asia Healthcare Partners acquired HSC Medical Centre (HSC) in December 2019 with the intention to turn it into the foremost orthopaedic hospital in the region.

HSC has been operating since 2003 and is an award-winning medical centre and one-stop advanced health screening hub. Apart from offering comprehensive health screening, it also offers cardiac and endoscopy services, and will soon provide general surgery services.

TE Asia decided to acquire HSC as it fits many of TE’s requirements. HSC is conveniently located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, within walking distance of the iconic Petronas Twin Towers.  This location is very strategic to both local and foreign patients as well as convenient for doctors and staff.  In addition, the HSC building still has room for expansion.  HSC currently has 7 hospital beds, 1 cardiac laboratory and 1 operating theatre. TE Asia plans to expand HSC’s facilities to include 40 beds and 4 operating theatres.

TE Asia will be partnering with top orthopaedic surgeons to transform HSC into a specialty orthopaedic centre that will offer cutting-edge technology. The centre will be helmed by these experienced and eminent orthopaedic surgeons, who are widely recognised and are also thought leaders in their field. The surgeons will be supported by well-trained staff nurses and allied staff experienced in helping with orthopaedic treatments.

HSC’s orthopaedic services will be focusing on the joints and spine, including knee and hip replacements. This includes diagnostic, surgical and non-surgical orthopaedic services. Non-surgical services include steroid injections and physiotherapy.

The orthopaedic services at HSC are due to be launched at the end of the first quarter of 2021.

When asked about what makes HSC different from other hospitals in the region, TE Asia director Anwar Anis said, “There are similar hospitals offering orthopaedic services in Malaysia but not of the scale that HSC plans to do. We will be bigger and more focused in providing orthopaedic treatments than our competitors.”  In addition, the doctors practising in HSC will be doing so on an exclusive basis.

On 16 March 2020, TE Asia Healthcare Partners CEO Eng Aik Meng was interviewed by BFM 89.9 the Business Station’s Noelle Lim on her podcast, “The Breakfast Grille”.

In this informative interview, Aik Meng talked about why specialty hospitals, as opposed to general hospitals, will experience a wave of growth in Asia in the future.  Aik Meng touched on the various advantages of specialty hospitals and also described the benefits of team-based care, where doctors work together to give the best treatment to patients. The interview ends with Aik Meng discussing how private hospitals can help public hospitals treat patients who have been infected by Covid 19.

In December 2018, the Hong Kong Integrated Oncology Centre (HKIOC) has once again expanded its geographical footprint in the region by setting up a new treatment centre in Tsim Sha Tsui’s Mira Place. In the last three-and-a-half years of operation, HKIOC encountered numerous challenges in a highly dynamic and competitive environment. And despite these challenges, HKIOC was able to continue in expanding patients’ access to high-quality and holistic cancer care through the expansion of its integrated oncology centre network.

At its inception three-and-a-half years ago, there were only four doctors and a team of 30 members working tirelessly together to set up the first private and fully integrated outpatient oncology centre in Hong Kong. Today, the number of doctors has doubled, and the team has grown to over 100 members. HKIOC was able to achieve such an impressive growth thanks to a dedicated team of extremely passionate and committed clinicians supported by incredibly competent administrative and operation teams. These teams enable HKIOC to expand its holistic services across Hong Kong and towards Mainland China.

And right now, HKIOC is at the crossroad of an opportune moment — the dissemination of the “Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area”. The opening of the Shenzhen Hong Kong high-speed railway and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge has significantly increased convenience for cancer patients in Mainland to seek treatment in Hong Kong. To capitalise on this opportunity, HKIOC has been strengthening its cooperation with medical institutions in the Greater Bay Area to drive the development of a multi-disciplinary share-care model between Mainland China and Hong Kong.

Over the last six months, HKIOC has signed memorandums of cooperation with a newly established Cancer Prevention Committee in Shenzhen (海峽兩岸醫藥衛生交流協會腫瘤防治專業委員會), The Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO) Young Expert Committee and Affiliated Zhongshan Hospital of Guangdong Medical University — to strengthen clinical experiences, foster academic exchange, and to train frontline medical staff between partners. With these opportunities, we believe that the opening of HKIOC (Kowloon Centre) marks a pivotal step in shaping a brighter future for cancer patients with our unwavering principle of providing nothing less than cutting-edge, quality, and holistic healthcare services.

Established in 2012, Hung Viet is an oncology hospital in downtown Hanoi that offers favourable solutions for cancer patients compared to government-run hospitals. All with more experienced doctors, better levels of service such as lower waiting times, and better room availability at a reasonable price.

The hospital is strategically located in close proximity to Bach Mai Hospital, National Cancer Hospital, and Hanoi Oncology Hospital. Three key government-run hospitals known for their oncology services.

As they strive to be Vietnam’s private referral hospital for oncology, Hung Viet also offers universal insurance-claimable services for specialist consultation, laboratory services, endoscopy, radiotherapy, as well as chemotherapy and surgery for cancer. They’re currently equipped with 117 beds (including 12 recovery beds), 4 operating rooms, diagnostic facilities (laboratory, CT scan, ultrasound, X-ray), chemotherapy and endoscopy facilities.

Until today, Hung Viet is the first and only private oncology hospital that provides oncology treatment for cancer patients in Hanoi and northern Vietnam — with plans to reach Vietnam’s healthcare in the near future. TE Asia is also aiming to launch new facilities and services related to oncology in a new building next to the current hospital, which will include new PET-CT machines, and Radiotherapy services that are expected to receive patients in August 2019.

With this merger, Hung Viet will benefit from the new services with access to the regional network of radiology and oncology expertise. While TE Asia will gain an additional facility to its regional network of cancer centres.

The hospital’s new building is currently under construction with the first floor dedicated to advanced cancer services. This site will be the new home of TCCMTCMC. Turnover of the area is targeted for completion by early April 2019.

The site will launch to feature the new Chemotherapy Unit with 5-chair and 2-bed capacity. A pharmacy which focuses on anti-neoplastic drugs will be available to patients and customers. A new CT Simulation Machine will be able to aid the radiation therapy team to determine the exact location, shape, and size of tumours to be treated.

Patient Registration, Billing, and Cashier services will be moved to the new area as well. While future plans for the rest of the site will include a new radiotherapy machine and more clinics for the oncologists. Completion of the floor is projected for the end of 2020.

With the launching of its first oncology centre, Adi Husada Cancer Center (AHCC) in 2017, TE is poised to strengthen its portfolio in Indonesia. AHCC was established in partnership with the Rumah Sakit Adi Husada, a leading hospital in Surabaya with over 90 years of history which is located right in the heart of Surabaya.

As East Indonesia’s first cancer treatment facility equipped with radiotherapy, chemotherapy and surgical services, AHCC is now moving forward to provide post cancer treatment services to provide holistic care to patients. The Centre recently partnered with Can-care, a nonprofit organisation, to provide comprehensive post cancer treatment services to patients. The official launch of Can-care services was held on 20 October 2018.

In partnership with Mother Teresa of Calcutta Medical Centre in Pampanga, Philippines, TE established its very first cancer specialist center in San Fernando. The Center currently offers cutting edge technology in cancer treatment including tomotherapy and nuclear medicine and is known as The Cancer Center at Mother Teresa of Calcultta Medical Center (The Cancer Center).

The Cancer Center aims to make a difference in the field by positively impacting lives of people in Central Luzon with advanced technology and holistic treatments. The Center is currently in the midst of establishing a new building which will house state of the art treatment facilities including an upcoming PET CT scan machine and chemotherapy services.

TE’s flagship cardiac centre, Cardiac Vascular Sentral Kuala Lumpur (CVSKL) Hospital was officially launched on 16 August 2018 by Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, accompanied by his wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali. The launch ceremony was also graced by Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Yahya Awang, former co-founder of IJN who currently is Chairman of CVSKL.

The launch event was attended by approximately 300 guests including Economic Affairs Minister – Datuk Seri Mohamad Azmin Ali, Menteri Besar of Johor – Datuk Osman Sapian, Japanese Ambassador to Malaysia – His Excellency Dr Makio Miyagawa, Bruneian High Commissioner in Kuala Lumpur – Dato Paduka Haji Alaihuddin bin Pehin Orang Kaya Digadong Seri Lela Dato Seri Utama Haji Awang Mohd Taha, the board of directors, management and doctors.

Prior to the launch, CVSKL was conferred the ‘Best New Hospital Of The Year In Asia Pacific’ award at the Asia Pacific Healthcare and Medical Tourism Summit. The event was held at Ho Chi Minh in May 2018 and attended by over 200 invited guests from the healthcare industry.
